When you open the box cover, there is a top tray with many compartments. When the tray is removed, there are two larger compartments underneath for storing items. The top of the box has a brass plate and handle that folds down into a small sunken area in the plate. You can see the name of "Sophie Carr" engraved into the top of the brass plate.
An antique sterling pocket mirror which swivels open. Each side - on the inside - has a circular mirror. The mirror is 1.5 inches in diameter. The outside cover has a person's initials engraved in fancy script. On the outside front cover.
It is marked "Sterling" on the back cover. The pocket mirror weighs 30 grams. Two drinking cups which are marked "Sterling 3209" on the bottom of each cup. Each cup is 1.75 inches high and 2.25 inches in diameter at the widest area on the top.The two cups together weigh 70 grams. An antique pocket knife 3 inches in length and weighs 38 grams. The outside of the case has "Nancy" engraved in script letters and has the "Towle Sterling" notation on one end. When fully opened it has 2 knives (one short and one longer) and a small scissors.
It includes notes written and signed by various individuals and most are dated in the early 1880s.
